The Minneriya National Park has been temporarily closed, following yesterday’s attack by a group of protesters on a group of wildlife officials.

The curator, Bhathiya Madugalla said that three of the officers who were injured in the assault were admitted to Habarana hospital for treatment.

A group of residents surrounded Minneriya wildlife office and launched the protest voicing their opposition to wildlife officers after a fisherman was arrested for allegedly fishing inside the park.

The tense situation that erupted between the protestors and wildlife officers was controlled by police.

Madugalla said the park was closed down as his officers did not report to duty today in protest of the assault on their colleagues.
