Orders issued to have the chief of defence staff arrested if sufficient evidence is available

Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi who was arrested in connection with the abduction and forced disappearance of 11 youth in Colombo back in 2008 and 2009 was further remanded today until September 11th.

The case was taken before the Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayarathna this morning.

Meanwhile, the magistrate ordered the CID to arrest the chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunarathna if sufficient evidence was obtained to prove that he aided and abetted the suspect to evade the court or the CID.

Admiral Wijegunarathna held the post of  commander of the Sri Lanka Navy at that time.
