SLFP celebrates 67th anniversary today

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party which has played a major role in Sri Lanka’s political arena celebrates its 67th anniversary today.

Late Prime Minister S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike who functioned as a Minister in the then UNP government, quit and formed the SLFP on the 2nd of September 1951.

The SLFP lays claim to have produced the first ever female Prime Minister in the world as Sirimavo Bandaranaike was elected Prime Minister in 1960.

The General Secretary of the SLFP Professor Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa said that many religious observances will be held today.
