A significant drop in attendance of school students and public sector workers has been reported in view of the protest organised by the Joint Opposition in Colombo today.

Principals of several schools in Colombo confirmed to our news team that they had recorded poor attendance this morning.

It was also reported that road congestion and the number of commuters on trains and buses were notably less than usual.

Deputy Minister of Public Administration and Management, Nalin Bandara claimed that there had been no impact on the attendance of staff.

Meanwhile, private bus unions, the SLTB and the railway department stated that they would continue with their services as usual, despite the Joint Opposition protest.

General secretary of the all Ceylon Private Bus Owners Union, Anjana Priyanjith said all buses were operational according to schedule.
