The bus unions have decided this morning to demand a 10% hike in bus fares to offset the loss with the increased fuel prices.

The unions have also drawn the attention to increase the minimum bus fare to 15 rupees from 12.

Meanwhile, the meeting scheduled for this afternoon between the bus unions and the national transport commission has cancelled.

Commission chairman M.A.P. Hemachandra said that the subject minister is currently out of the country and a discussion with the bus unions without the minister’s recommendations would not be fruitful.
