Former President, MP Mahinda Rajapaksa has refuted allegations of human rights violations during the final phase of the war which ended in 2009.

Addressing the Virat Hindustan meeting organised by the leader of the Janatha Party, Subramaniam Swamy, Rajapaksa pointed out that the war was not against a community. He reiterated that the army did not conduct war against the Tamil people.

He also said that the activities of the LTTE was not limited to Sri Lanka, but had also spread to India as well.

Rajapaksa also said that he would have betrayed the country's future generation if he had not killed LTTE Leader V. Prabhakaran.

he also refuted claims that 40,000 people had died during the war. He said that around 8,000 incld=uding LTTE cadres had lost their lives.
