The Supreme Court upheld the judgment issued by the Court of Appeal to the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) to allow graduates of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) to be registered.
The Court of Appeal on January 31 ordered the SLMC to allow graduates of the SAITM offer registration for SAITM graduates.
The SLMC challenged the verdict at the Supreme Court.
Having considered the petition, Chief Justice, Priyasath Depp and Justice Prasanna Jayawardana rejected the petition and upheld the Court of Appeal judgment.
In addition, the Supreme Court ordered the SLMC to pay the legal cost of Rs. 100,000 to the SAITM student who filed a petition with the Court of Appeal and requesting SLMC registration for SAITM graduates.
