President meets with UN General Secretary

President Maithripala Sirisena met with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.

The UN Secretary-General appreciated the close cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United Nations and also thanked Sri Lanka for its contribution to UN peacekeeping.

President Sirisena had said that much work had been done to strengthen democracy, reconciliation and rule of law in Sri Lanka during the last 3 and a half years.

Discussions had focussed on Sri Lanka's efforts in the peace and reconciliation process where the UN Secretary-General had offered continued support in this regard.

Ministers Thilak Marapana, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Mano Ganeshan and Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representatives to the UN Doctor Amrith Rohan Perera also participated in the discussion.
