The organization for the protection of rainforests state that a private company has used some variety of chemical to kill trees in a land near the proposed forest reserve of Kudumeeriya which is adjacent to the world heritage site, Sinharaja.

The organizations charged that a toxic chemical has been injected into the trunk leaving the trees to die a natural death.

Kudumeeriya is located in the catchment of Kudaganga and Delgodaganga rivers.

The convener of the organization warned that the chemical the company has used in this vandalism could pose a threat to the lives of the users of these two waterways.

Our news team contacted the senior environmental officer of the Sabaragamuwa office of the Central Environmental Authority, Sarath Chandrasiri to comment on this vandalism.

He said the incident has been reported to his office as well and, it expects to implement the law against the particular company soon.
