The MET Department said that very heavy falls above 150 mm can be expected at some places today as well.

The depression over the southeast Arabian Sea area is moving away from the country but prevailing showery condition is expected to continue over the island today.

The highest rainfall of 199 Millimeters was reported from the Kalutara – Usweli area.

Sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Hambanthota via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Matara is high with the increase of wind speed up to 70 to 80 kmph.

The Irrigations Department said that water levels of Kalu and Ging Rivers as well as Aththanagalu Oya were gradually rising.

However, they have not yet reached spill levels.

Several areas in Colombo were also inundated yesterday due to heavy rains.

Operations Director of Expressways S Opanayake said that the Welipenna entry exit point on the Southern Expressway has been temporarily closed as the Mathugama – Aluthgama road is inundated.

Meanwhile, a landslide warning has been issued for few areas in Kalutara, Badulla and Kegalle districts.
