The MET department stated that even though the depression prevailing over the Arabian Sea is moving away from the island, Southern, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Western provinces can expect heavy showers exceeding 100 mm.

Meanwhile, the water levels in Kelani, Kalu and Ging rivers are still at a high level.

The Irrigation Department noted that the public should be vigilant as the water level in Kelani River at the Nagalagam Street water gauge has risen.

Accordingly, those residing in low-lying areas of Colombo, Kelaniya, Kolonnawa, Biyagama and Kaduwela areas are requested to be vigilant of floods.

 Further, four deaths have been reported from the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

The Disaster Management Centre noted that three deaths were reported from Kalutara district while the fourth death has been reported from Wanduramba area.

Meanwhile, the landslide warning issued to several divisional secretariat divisions in Kalutara district has been extended for another 24 hours.

The landslide warning has been issued to Walallawita, Bulathsinhala, Agalawaththa, Mathugama, Baduraliya and Ingiriya divisional secretariats.

The National Building Research Organization urges those living in Badulla district’s Badulla and Passara divisional secretariats as well as Kegalle district’s Dehiowita, Yatiyanthota and Ruwanwella divisional secretariats to be cautious of possible landslides.

The highest rainfall in the past 24 hours has been reported from Poddiwela area in Galle which stands at 334.1 mm.
