Draft Budget appropriation bill to be presented in parliament today

Minister Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera is scheduled to present the draft appropriation bill of the budget 2019 in parliament today .

The budget proposals will be presented in parliament on 5th November.

According to the draft appropriation bill for 2019 recently approved by the cabinet, next year’s total government expenditure will be 4376 billion rupees.

Issuing a communiqué the Ministry stated that the budget deficit was 644 bn rupees.

That is 4.1 per cent of the gross national product.

Accordingly, compared to this year, next year’s government expenditure will increase by 394 bn rupees

Approximately  1000 bIllion rupees will be  allocated towards paying salaries and pensions  for government employees and pensioners.

 the money allocated for school uniforms, medicine, elders’ allowances, fertilizer subsidies, nutrition basket and welfare costs including allowances for kidney patients is. 220 bn rupees.

The communiqué states that the largest allocation of 306 bn rupees from the 2019 draft appropriation bill is for the Defence Ministry.

290 bn rupees had been estimated for the Defence Ministry this year, an additional Rs. 16 bn has been allocated for next year.

the ministry of Finance and Mass Media has projected that by 2019  the government revenue will increase up to 15.1 per cent of the gross national product.
