Police Special Investigations Unit has recorded statements for four and half hours from the police sergeant who behaved in an unruly manner in the Thembuwana town brandishing a firearm.

A high ranking officer told our news team that statements were recorded in connection with the incident that occurred recently.

The officer also said that the police special investigations unit would carry out next investigations based on the statements obtained.

The police sergeant concerned behaved in an unruly manner in the Thembuwana town on 3rd of this month saying that although a tipper had been taken into police custody over illegal sand transport, no opportunity had been given for enforcing the law against the offence.

Later while he was remanded till 9th this month, he was released on a Rs. 50,000 personal bail.

Similarly, the Law and Order Ministry took steps to terminate the police sergeant temporarily.

Meanwhile, Thembuwana sergeant Sanath Gunawardhana was released on bail made a statement through social media.
