The committee appointed to observe areas in which wild elephants collide with trains frequently, have put forward 5 recommendations.

The committee members had visited railway tracks in both Trincomalee and Batticaloa, to gather data about wild elephant behavior patterns before making these recommendations.

Some of the recommendations include clearing at least 30 meters of land beside the train tracks to ensure that train drivers can observe the area without a hindrance, ensuring that speed limits are maintained and creating overhead pathways for elephants to cross safely.
