Kurunegala High Court Judge, Menaka Wijesundara ordered today to acquit the three respondents including former minister, Johnston Fernando without calling for submissions from the respondents.

Earlier, President’s Counsel, Kalinga Indratissa who appeared for the respondents had made a special request from the court to acquit his clients without calling submissions under Clause 200 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

In addition to former minister Fernando, the other two respondents in the case are his private secretary, Mohamed Zakeer and former chairman of Sathosa, Nalin Fernando.

The Attorney General sued the three for removing 3.8 million rupees worth of goods from the Yanthanpalawa branch of Sathosa without paying its value in 2013.

The case was taken for daily hearing recently and the high court judge ordered to remand the three respondents until the trial is over.

At the same time, the bail application made by the former minister was also rejected by the Court of Appeal on September 17th.
