The Northern provincial chief minister, CV Wigneshwaran quit the TNA and formed a new political party today.

Wigneshwaran who chairs the Tamil People’s Council has launched his new party, Tamil People’s Alliance, during a meeting held in Jaffna today.

TNA MP, Shivashakthi Anandan, EPRLF leader Suresh Premachandran, Northern Provincial council ministers, Anandi Shashidaran and Kandeiyah Sarveshwaran were present at the party launch.

The term of the Northern Provincial Council is due to end tonight.

Addressing the gathering at the launch, Wigneshwaran said that he took this decision as the TNA has distanced itself from party policies.

However, Northern Provincial Councilor, MK Sivajilingam stated that he would not support the new political party chaired by the Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister CV Wigneshwaran.

Wigneshwaran stated in his last speech at the council session yesterday that he would expect Sivajilingam to join him in his future political career.
