The Sri Lanka Army has decided to recall the Commander of the Sri Lanka peacekeeping force to the Republic of Mali, Lieutenant Colonel Kalana Amunupura.

Army Media Spokesman, Brigadier Sumith Atapattu said that this decision has been taken following a written request made by the United Nation.

He said that Lieutenant Colonel Amunupura is expected in the island on November 10th.

The spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Steven Dujarik stated recently that it requested the Sri Lanka Government to recall the Lieutenant Colonel after a background of human rights were reviewed.

Brigadier Sumith Atapattu further said that a decision was taken to recall Lieutenant Colonel Amunupura to respect the UN’s request.

He said the Army will take measures to assure the innocence of Lieutenant Colonel Amunupura however.
