President Maithripala Sirisena has told the high commissioners and ambassadors that he was compelled to appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa as prime minister due to the disputable position of the previous government.

A meeting was convened by the president to educate the foreign missions at the presidential secretariat yesterday.

Expressing their views, several mission heads stated that their anticipation is the constitution should be followed and peace should be restored in the country.

At that moment, the president had told them that he appointed the new prime minister under the powers vested in him by the constitution.

Meanwhile, China has stated that the political changes being taken place in Sri Lanka are its internal matter, therefore, China would not interfere in the process.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Chen Shuevan told the media in Beijing that his country believes Sri Lankan government and its people would be able to settle their own affairs.
