The UNP held a protest against appointing a new prime minister and demanded the restoration of democracy.

Our correspondent stated that party supporters from across the island had participated in this protest held at Colpetty today.

Meanwhile, Colombo Additional Magistrate, Priyantha Liyanage issued an enjoining order preventing the UNP from entering government offices.

Cinnamon Garden police requested the court to issue this order to protect law and order by preventing the UNP entering government offices.

At the same time, police have been instructed to deploy full security to avoid any clash in Colombo today.

2000 policemen have been deployed in Colombo city and another 600 have been deployed to control traffic.
