President Maithripala Sirisena has decided to convene parliament on November 5th.

Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa announced this during a meeting with university teachers at the prime ministers’ office this morning.

Parliament was scheduled to meet on November 5 before it was prorogued until November 16th by the President after he changed the Prime Minister last Friday.

Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa described the president’s decision to convene parliament as it had been scheduled for November 5th.

Meanwhile, MP Thilanga Sumathipala said that the speaker has agreed to allocate the privileges of the Prime Minister including his seating for the new prime minister.

He told our news team that the speaker agreed to do so during a meeting he had with President Maithripala Sirisena at the presidential secretariat.

In addition, the speaker’s office stated in a communiqué this morning, that its officials will follow the gazette issued in this regard and provide necessary facilities for the new prime minister.
