The met department states that under the influence of the low pressure system prevailing showery and cloudy condition is expected to continue over the island and surrounding sea areas.

At the same time, 10 sluice gates of Parakkrama Samudra are still kept open.

Disaster Management Center assistance director Pradeep Kodippili stated that 4 spill gates of Deduru Oya reservoir, two spill gates of Thabbowa, Rajanganaya and Angamuwa reservoirs are also still kept open.

He also requested users of the Mahaweli and the Kelani rivers to take caution.

Meanwhile, the highest rainfall of 270 millimetres during the last 24 hours has been reported from Kiran and Passikudah in Batticaloa.
