The Prime Minister also notes that as leaders, it is their responsibility and obligation to give the general public the opportunity to voice their opinions on the future of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the former Defence Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his twitter account stated that the genuine power of the people should deliver a stable and progressive future at this critical juncture of the country.

The former defence secretary had further noted that he is confident that the people of Sri Lanka will make the right choice.

Meanwhile, Subramanian Swamy of India’s Bharatiya Janata Party in his twitter account commended the decision made by the President to opt for a general election.

He stated that allowing the general public to vote, is a democratic and constitutional move.

He further stated that the Tamil National Alliance could have received a favourable response had they supported Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
