following a tense situation that erupted this morning, parliament was adjourned until November 21st.

The chaotic situation erupted after ruling and opposition MPs surrounded the speaker’s chair and started protesting.

at 10 this morning, the speaker informed the house, that as a consequence of the no confidence motion being passed yesterday , the prime ministers post and other cabinet ministers posts were now invalid,

Amid the commotion, Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa who made a special statement saying that he had been appointed constitutionally.

he went on to state that the task of settling the current political crises should be handed over  to the people.

At that moment, MP Lakshman Kiriella asked for a vote in the house as there was no confidence in the Prime Minister.

Later MPs both from the ruling party and the Opposition made their way to the speaker’s chair at which point a tense situation erupted in the house and MPs from both parties engaged in fist fights.

MP Dilum Amunugama was injured as he attempted to detach the microphone on the speaker’s table.
