A meeting between President Maithreepala Sirisena and Prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa reportedly took place last night after the president met with  UNF leaders at the presidential secretariats office.

Government internal sources state that views were exchanged between the president and prime minister regarding the future of the government and the disruptive situation in parliament.

parliament is scheduled to reconvene at 1.30pm today.

A meeting has commenced under the patronage of speaker Karu Jayasuriya with party leaders, in order to decide on how the parliamentary session should be conducted.

A final decision is yet to be arrived at,  regarding if the session should be conducted in accordance with standing orders.

An additional meeting between ruling party MPs and the Prime minister took place at 10.30 this morning at the parliamentary complex.

MP Shehan Semasinghe noted that during this meeting, discussions were also had regarding the manner in which parliamentary proceedings should take place, and it was determined that once a decision was arrived at following the party leaders meeting, several other decisions would also be taken.

Meanwhile, the group of UNP MPs were scheduled to meet at midday, under the patronage of party leader Ranil Wickramasinghe.

It has been reported that MPs representing the UNF were to participate at that meeting.

MP J.C Alawathuwala noted that with the decision taken at the party leaders meeting, future proceedings of the parliament would be determined.

The JVP and the TNA are to meet under the patronage of their respective party leaders today as well.

The party information sources noted that the future political situation will be decided on following the meeting.
