Former MP, Retired Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera filed a fundamental petition with the Supreme Court today.

In his petition, Retired Rear Admiral Weerasekera states that the reconvening of parliament by the speaker is illegal and fundamental rights of his as well as his fellow people have been violated by this action.

The petition has named the speaker, parliament secretary general and the Attorney general as respondents.

The Supreme Court issued an interim order suspending the Gazette issued by the president to dissolve parliament recently.
