A senior spokesman for the parliament stated today that there will be an impasse in appointing the select committee if both the ruling and the opposition claim the majority membership.

However, naming members for the select committee has been mandatory tomorrow as the full moon Poya falls on Thursday.

Parliament will meet on Friday.

The spokesman told our news team that it will fail to appoint the select committee if the two factions disagree on the majority.

The select committee comprises of 12 members including the speaker.

All political parties which represent parliament should hand over their nominations to the speaker tomorrow.
