Former MP, Geetha Kumarasinghe stated that she is ready to contest for the forthcoming general election from Galle district.

She announced her plans during her visit to the Election Commission to hand over documents with regard to her withdrawal of Swiss citizenship.

Geetha Kumarasinghe’s parliament seat was cancelled by the Court of Appeal last year after a petition filed by 6 voters from the Galle district was heard.

under the 19th Amendment of Sri Lanka’s constitution a dual citizenship holder doe not have rights to represent parliament.

Geetha Kumarasinghe challenged the judgment in the Supreme Court.

However, the Supreme Court endorsed the judgement and declared that Geetha Kumarasinghe does not in fact have a right to hold a seat in Sri Lanka’s parliament.
