Seven Government members have been named for the proposed parliamentary select committee.

The office of the leader of the House, issuing a communiqué, said that from the Government party, Ministers Dinesh Gunawardhana, S. B. Dissanayake, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Vimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila and MP Tilanga Sumatipala have been named.

Meanwhile, Leader of the house, Minister Dinesh Gunawardhana has addressed a letter to the Speaker.

In this letter, he thanked the speaker for deciding, to appoint a select committee.

the Minister went on to state that while 50 MPs had been appointed as part of the government by the President on 8th January 2015,  at that time the opposition had more than 150 MPs.

The letter also states, that the former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, set up the select committee comprising five members, representing the UNP led government, five from the UPFA and one representative each from the Estate Workers’ Congress, Hela Urumaya, National Congress and the JVP.

two seats had been assigned to the TNA.

Minister Dinesh Gunawardhana states that in view of the above,  it was hoped that a majority of members for the select committee would be appointed from the government party
