Participating in a special discussion, held at the Presidential secretariat last afternoon, the President instructed that legal amendments required for this to take place, be made accordingly.

Ministers Wijedasa Rajapaksa, Susil Premajyantha, and a group of officials including President’s Secretary Udaya R. Senevirathna, Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya, Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, and IGP Poojith Jayasundara all participated in the discussion.

On this occasion discussions were held regarding increasing the relevant fines for narcotics-related offences and  minimizing road accidents.

the President instructed that the method be made more systematic by removing the existing obstacles.

The President also said that the possibility of introducing an electronic system  to pay fines be explored.
