Bus Association hold conflicting views on reducing fares; Three Wheel fares to be reduced next week

The All Ceylon Private Bus Associations’ Federation stated that discussions on reducing bus fares will be held today, in view of the reduced fuel prices.

Its secretary, Anjana Priyanjith told our news team that all the representatives of the federation have been convened to Colombo for this matter.

However, President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, Gemunu Wijerathna stated that it is not possible to reduce bus fares at the moment as the cost of spare parts has increased.

Minister C.B. Rathnayake stated that the Chairman of the National Transport Commission should take measures to recommend a reduction in bus fares to bus associations as fuel prices and taxes have been reduced significantly.

Secretary of the United National Three-wheeler Drivers’ Association, L. Rohana Perera stated that the Association expects to revise three-wheeler fares next week in line with the reduced fuel prices.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Lanka Self – Employed National Three-wheeler Federation, Sunil Jayawardena stated that measures will be taken to reduce the fare for the 1st kilometre by 10 rupees from Monday.  

Accordingly, he stated that the fare for the 1st kilometer which previously stood at 60 rupees will now be reduced to 50 rupees.
