The Wildlife Conservation Department and Police have launched two separate investigations into the killing of a calf in Udawalawa National Park.

A 7 year old calf which is about 2 meters in height was discovered shot dead this dawn.  

The post mortem examinations of the calf were carried out this morning.

The Veterinarian of the Udawalawa National Park, Malaka Abeywardena had performed the autopsy during which it has been revealed that the calf has died due to gun shots to its head and the ear.  

A senior officer at Hambegamuwa Police stated that an investigation was launched into the incident based on a complaint lodged by the Wildlife Conservation Department with Hambegamuwa Police.
