The members of the Ceylon Workers Congress launched a strike in the entire estate sector demanding the increase of their daily salary to one thousand rupees.

It is reported that estate administrations have close down tea estates and some of their offices due to the strike.

The protesters told our news team that they would continue their trade union action until their demands are met.

CWC Senior president S Arulsami said the strike has been successful.

However, leader of the Ceylon National Estate Labourers union, MP Wadiwail Suresh said that a decision regarding supporting the strike will be taken during a meeting tomorrow.
