The hearing of the contempt of court case against MP Ranjan Ramanayake was postponed to January 28th.

The case was taken before Justices Sisira de Aabrew, Vijith Malalgoda and Prasanna Jayawardana today.

Addressing the media after a meeting with his former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on August 21 last year, Ramanayake allegedly said that the majority of judges and lawyers of Sri Lanka are corrupt.

Later, Magalkande Sudatta Thera and retired airman, Sunil Perera sued Ramanayake for contempt of court.

Meanwhile, MP Ranjan Ramanayake has been ordered to appear before the Supreme Court on February 26th in connection with another case of contempt of court.

The order was issued when the case against MP Ramanayake was taken for hearing on December 7th.

This petition has been filed against Ramanayake‘s statement with regard to the outcome of the judgment in the case in connection with the dissolution of parliament.

The Supreme court also ordered to hear the petition daily for three days effective January 28.

At the same time, the court ordered the respondent’s lawyer, MA Sumanthiran to file the list of witnesses before January 14th.
