Petition which resulted in the interim order against the prime minister and cabinet to be examined again today

The petition filed requesting a Quo Woronto Writ saying that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the cabinet have no authority to hold these posts, is scheduled to be taken up for hearing again today.

122 MPs including former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had filed the petition before the appeal court.

Accordingly the appeal court had also recently issued an interim order suspending effective up to today the holding of the relevant posts by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the cabinet.

In the order cabinet representatives including Mahinda Rajapaksa had been noticed to be present in court today.

The petition will be called  for consideration before Appeal Court chairman Justice Preethi Padman Surasena and Justice Arjun Obeysekera.
