Confidence vote in Ranil passes in parliament, TNA votes for and JVP restrains from voting

The confidence vote in former Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe was passed by 117 votes in parliament today.

The vote was moved by UNP deputy leader, Sajith Premadasa and was seconded by MP Mangala Samaraweera.

UNF and TNA MPs voted for the confidence vote, while JVP abstained from voting.   

Meanwhile, UPFA MPs boycotted parliament today as well.

Later, parliament was adjourned for December 18th by the speaker, while the speaker’s office stated that the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has informed the President in writing that the motion expressed confidence in Ranil Wickremesinghe.
