140 thousand acres of paddy fields become barren land

The Agriculture Ministry says that under the programme of re-cultivationof  abandoned paddy land, steps have been taken to cultivate on 27,000 acres of land during the up coming  Maha season.

The ministry said that during the previous Maha season 13.000 acres of abandoned land had been re-cultivatied.

The ministry stated that the country had approximately 140,000 acres of abandoned land, Of which 114,000 acres  wuld be considered as being highly fertile for recultivation of paddy.
