The Registrar of the Supreme Court Pradeep Mutugala stated that the verdict on the petitions against the dissolution of parliament will be announced at 4 this evening.

13 petitions were filed against the Gazette issued by the President dissolving parliament, followed by another 5 mediatory petitions.

The Hearing began on December 4 and continued through until December 7.

Last firday Chief Justice Nalin Perera stated that the verdict would be announced in a later date.

At that time,  the seven-judge panel extended the Interim injunction preventing the implementation of the Gazette issued by the President,  until the verdict of the petition was announced.

The UNP, JVP, SLMC and several other political parties filed petitions against the president’s controversial Gazette which was issued on November 9.

Certain other factions filed similar petitions requesting to mediate in the previous petitions.

the seven-judge panel chaired by the chief justice Nalin Perera was appointed to hear the petitions.

the panel comprised of namely Priyantha Jayawardana, Prasanna Jayawardana, Sisira de Aabrew, Vijith Malalgoda, Buwaneka Aluvihare and Murdu Fernando.
