President Maithripala Sirisena has given out instructions to relevant officials to provide immediate relief to those affected by inclement weather prevalent in the North.

The President has requested the Governor, District Secretaries, Army Commander and Disaster Management Centre to coordinate relief efforts.

Meanwhile, the Air Force has deployed a Bell 212 helicopter and a Y 12 Aircraft to coordinate relief efforts.

44 thousand 959 persons have been affected by the inclement weather prevalent in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts.

31, 234 persons have been affected in Kilinochchi while 12,651 have been affected in Mullaitivu.

Meanwhile, 14 sluice gates of the Iranamadu reservoir have been opened.

Few sluice gates of the Rajanganaya, Angamuwa and Deduru Oya reservoirs have also been opened due to heavy rains.

1 death was also reported from Kilinochchi due to electrocution.
