The met department states that showers or thundershowers will occur in the Northern, Eastern and North-central provinces, this evening.

Fairly heavy falls above 75mm can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in Jaffna and Mullaitivu districts.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces during the morning while temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers can also be expected.

The sluice gates of the Raajanganaya, Deduru Oya and Iranamadu reservoirs remain open; therefore, those living in low lying areas in the vicinity, should be vigilant according the disaster management centre.

Meanwhile, the minister of disaster management Ranjith Madduma Bandara, inspected areas in the North, in order to assess the situation and to ensure that those affected by the adverse weather are provided with the relief they need.

As of now, 73, 343 persons belonging to 22, 823 families living in Mulathivu, Kilinochchi, Mannar , Vavuniya and Jaffna districts, are affected by the adverse weather.

Meanwhile, the government had decided to pay a compensation of 2.5 million rupees for each house that has been completely destroyed by the heavy rain and flooding.
