The swearing in ceremony of the remaining state and deputy ministers for the new government has been scheduled for the first week of January.

A senior minister confirmed that it will take place following the Presidents return to the country from overseas.

3 non cabinet ministers, 17 state ministers and 7 deputy ministers were sworn in before President Maithripala Sirisena last Friday afternoon.

Under the 19th Amendment, the number of non Cabinet and deputy ministers should be limited to 40 for a one-party government.

As a result, 16 additional state and deputy ministers have the opportunity to receive a portfolio.
