Provincial Council and Local Government State Minister H.M.M Harris said that the government expects to make necessary amendments to hold the Provincial Council election under the old system.

He was assuming duties in his new position this morning.

The Provincial Council election is being delayed, as the review committee has, to date, failed to release its report.

The committee was appointed after the delimitation report was defeated in parliament.

The provincial councils term for the Central, North Central, Eastern, Sabaragamuwa and Wayamba districts have already expired.

Additionally, the Southern Provincial Council term will expire on April 10th.

The term of the Uva provincial council will expire on September 8th next year.

Meanwhile, an additional 3 state ministers, namely state minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Ashok Abeysinghe, Agriculture, state minister of Irrigation and Rural Economic Affairs, Wasantha Aluvihare and the state minister of  Power and Renewable Energy, Champika Premadasa were appointed this morning.
