Thripitaka made a national heritage; President says request will be made to make it a World Heritage as well

The Thripitaka was declared as a national heritage at a ceremony held under the Patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the historic Aluvihara Temple in Matale today.

The Tripitaka contains the preaching of the Lord Buddha, and contains three volumes as Suthra, Vinaya and Abhidharma.

Today’s event was held with the participation of three Chief Incumbents of three chapters and of 2,000 Maha Sanga under state patronage.

As an outcome of the visit, taken place in 3rd century B.C of Arahath Mahinda Thera, Sri Lanka was blessed with the Tripitaka.

Then for the first time the Tripitaka was written on Ola leaves at Aluviharaya Temple, Matale in 1st Century of B.C. during King Walagamba’s time.

The Thripitaka named as a national heritage was presented to the Chief Prelates of the 3 main Chapters.
