Gas companies have requested the Consumer Affairs Authority to increase the price of a domestic gas cylinder by 359 rupees.

However, a spokesperson at the Authority noted that the request has not been considered as yet.

When our news team inquired in this regard from Muditha Peiris, the Managing Director of Litro Gas Lanka Limited, he stated that the price of a metric ton of gas in the world market has risen to 595 US dollars during the months of October and November.

The significant depreciation of the rupee against the US dollar is also another reason behind this request.

Gas companies inform the Consumer Affairs Authority of gas prices in the world every two months.

Accordingly, companies request the Authority to either increase or reduce gas prices.
