A group of protestors obstructed the first inspection train service on the Matara – Beliatta line while it was departing Beliatta Railway Station this morning.

Our correspondents stated that a tense situation arose at the Beliatta Railway Station as a result.

It is reported that the crowd had protested against the delegation led by Minister of Transport, Arjuna Ranathunga who were taking part in the inspection service.

The crowd, who were supporting leader of the opposition, Mahinda Rajapaksa and parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, has also displayed their banners along the railway line.

Crowds displaying banners of leader of the opposition, Mahinda Rajapaksa had gathered at Beliatta, Ovilana and Bambaranda Railway Stations and claimed that the railway line was constructed by the leader of the opposition, Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Meanwhile, relatives of a construction worker who fell to his death from the roof of Beliatta Railway Station during its construction staged a protest today obstructing the railway line at Ovilana.

Later, when the inspection train service arrived at Bambaranda Railway Station, a group of protestors hung a banner of opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa on the train.
