Main suspect who aided drug peddler Sunil Shantha to escape, remanded

The main suspect who was arrested in connection to aiding the notorious heroin racketeer, Sunil Shantha to escape from the Colombo Remand Prison, was ordered to be remanded until Tuesday when he was produced before Hulftsdorp number 2 Magistrate Court.  

The Magistrate also ordered to conduct an identification parade on Tuesday.

The main suspect who aided notorious drug peddler, Sunil Shantha to escape from Colombo Remand Prison, was arrested yesterday in Devuramwehera – Lunugamwehera.

The 32 year old suspect, identified as Mahesh Indika, is a resident of Devuramwehera – Lunugamwehera.

On the 17th of November, Sunil Shantha was transported to Kegalle Prison from Kalutara Prison for a court case and was later brought to the Colombo Remand Prison.

The suspect escaped with the assistance of several others who were disguised as prison officials while he was waiting to be boarded into the Kalutara prison bus.

Later, police arrested the suspect on the 11th of December in Meemure – Kandy.
