Political party leaders to decide the fate of the Constitutional Assembly

The deputy speaker Ananda Kumarasiri announced that the future course of action of the Constitutional Assembly will be decided during the next political party leaders’ meeting.

Speaking to our news team he said that political party leaders will decide when it would be convened again.

The Constitutional Assembly was presided by deputy speaker Ananda Kumarasiri this morning.

Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe presented 5 reports prepared by the Expert committees at today’s meeting.

However, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the current government has no moral right to move a new constitution in parliament.

Meanwhile, members for 5 select committees were nominated when parliament convened at 1.30 pm today.

In addition, 16 MPs were also appointed to COPE.
