Health authorities point out that there is a risk of Malaria resurfacing.

Director of the Malaria Prevention Movement Doctor H D B Herath said that there is a risk of the decease returning to the island through immigrants.

During the first week of December last year, an individual reported to have contracted Malaria was found from Siyambalanduwa.

Later another patient at Sri Jayawardanapura hospital was found to be suffering from Malaria.

However, both these patients have been cured.

The World Health Organisation had declared Sri Lanka free of malaria, hailing it as a “remarkable public health achievement”.
