German authorities say they have arrested a suspect, alleged to have been involved in the 2005 assassination of Sri Lanka’s foreign minister.

Federal prosecutors said that police arrested 39-year-old Navaneethan G, a former member of the LTTE, in South Western Germany on Wednesday.
Following the arrest, police conducted a search operation at his private residence.

The man, whose surname has not been released because of privacy laws in Germany, has been accused of murder, attempted murder and holding membership in a foreign terrorist organization

Prosecutors said the suspect was part of the group’s secret police, participating in the assassination of Minister Lakshman Kadhirgamar in August 2005 and the attempted killing of murder of Eelam People*s Democratic Party leader Douglas Devananda.

It has not been confirmed how long the suspect had resided in Germany.
