President Maithreepala Sirisena says that the government’s decision to impose the death penalty on drug traffickers will not be reversed.

He stated this attending a programme to declare the drug prevention national week in Mulaitivu- Mulliyawelei Vidyananda College today.

The president also took measures to introduce a toll free number in order to lodge complaints regarding drug trafficking and related organized crime as well.

Accordingly by dialing 1984, any individual is able to provide related information.

Speaking further President Maithripala Sirisena stated that a team from the Philippine government will arrive in the future to provide assistance to combat drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, 264 acres of state and private land in Jaffna, Mulativu, Kilinochchi and Mannar which were under the Army and land extending to 1099 acres belonging to 4 main farms which were under the government were released under the patronage of the president today.
