Supreme Court issues notice on former Chief Justice Sarath Nanda Silva

The supreme court issued notice to Former chief justice, Sarath Nanda Silva to appear before courts on the 7th of February with regard to  allegations of being in contempt of court.

The complaint regarding the matter was taken up before Supreme court judges, Vijith Malalgoda, S. Thurei-raja and Murdu Fernando.

Chief justice Sarath Nanda Silva and the attorney general have been named the respondents of the case.

The Former chief justice appeared before the supreme court this morning and the counsel appearing on behalf of him noted that though his client had not been issued notice, he still  appeared before courts today.

3 individuals including Prof. Chandragupta Theanuwara lodged a complaint noting that a statement made during a rally in Maradana was disrespectful towards the courts.
